At MAT Health Clinic, we understand the importance of good health. We are committed to ensuring that you receive the best care available. As such MAT Health Care provides range of following healthcare services for all ages.
MAT Health Clinic provides a range of professional services including:
General Medical Consultations
General Practitioners (GPs) treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment.
Managing Chronic Conditions
If a patient has a chronic medical condition, they may be eligible for services under a General Practitioner Management Plan (GPMP).
Chronic medical conditions are those that have been, or are likely to be, present for at least 6 months. This includes:
- asthma
- cancer
- cardiovascular disease
- diabetes
- kidney disease
- musculoskeletal conditions
- stroke.
These care plans help us to coordinate care and reduce the need for ad hoc consultations. They’re useful for recording comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date information about a patient’s condition and treatment.
Developing a care plan can also help encourage our patient to take responsibility for their care. Patients may be able to identify things they could do to achieve the goals of the treatment.
Allied Health Services
We are serious about healthcare. Which is why we work with a wide range of allied health providers to offer our patients comprehensive care. These services are provided for patient convenience and are designed to improve access to complementary services. Patients may require a referral from their GP to access these services. Some services may also incur a gap or private fee so patients need to speak to their doctor if they are unsure if these services are right for them.
Childhood Vaccinations
Immunising your child is an important step in preparing for a healthy life. The government is also offering incentives for parents to ensure children’s immunisations are up-to-date. The Family Tax Benefit Part A, the Child Care Benefit and the Child Care Rebate are all tied to childhood immunisations. For more information visit the Human Services website or download the immunisation schedule.
Adult Health services
Adult Health services are designed to help you identify risk factors and manage existing conditions that may otherwise reduce your quality of life and limit you as you age. With the help of your doctor, you can work towards reducing the impact chronic conditions could have on your life and focus on healthy aging.
HEALTH CHECKS
Your health needs change throughout your life, and so do your health risks. A health check can help your doctor assess your current health and the risks that may impact your health later.
Eligibility
> 45-49 years of age (once off assessment) or,
> 75+ years of age (annual assessments) or,
> Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (annual assessments & Closing The Gap).
HEALTH SCREENING
Health screening is an invaluable way of detecting a health condition early, before symptoms may be noticeable. In many cases, early detection can improve your prognosis (outlook) and can even save lives.
Eligibility:
The Eligibility for different screening programs often varies.
Your doctor can help you determine if you are eligible and if you would benefit from screening.
How to choose your appointment
We respect your time as precious and try very hard to keep to schedule. In order to do this, it is essential that you book an appointment time to match the complexity of the issue of concern. Please think about what you hope to achieve, any potential complicating factors, and try to anticipate issues that your doctor might need to cover.
Consider the following examples as a guideline for making your appointment:
First visit as a new patient | Nearly always at least a 30-minute appointment |
Cervical screening test | Includes a general health review so 30 minutes |
Men’s yearly health check | 30 minutes |
New “flu” symptoms | 20 minutes if very unwell otherwise 10 minutes |
Travel advice | 20 minutes |
Childhood health checks & vaccinations | Usually 30 mins with nurse than 20 mins with doctor – since includes a growth and developmental assessment |
Review of a chronic disease | 20 to 30 minutes |
Psychological distress | At least 40 minutes |
List of various concerns | At least 20 minutes (40 minutes if a long list!) |
“I only need a script” | 10 minutes; longer if it is more than 3 months since last reviewed or we need to review several health issues |
“I need a referral” | For a condition we’ve thoroughly reviewed recently, 10 minutes; longer if new or more than 6 months since last review |
Follow-up visit for symptom review or results check | 10 minutes may be enough unless you’re unwell or have complex health issues |
